It has worked for pretty much all sites until Musk took over twitter and intentionally fucked it up because he did not understand what it was for or why it was important.
Depending on millions of users to do it themselves is asking for failure.

That is something BlueSky can easily do to make it easy for EVERYONE on BlueSky to know an account is legit.
Way quicker & easier & more effective.
The whole point of blue sky is that one company doesn’t decide verification. It has to be decentralized.
A user on a social media site should not have to leave the site to google another site to figure out if an account they see is legitimate or not. That is such a waste of time.
Just verify it & mark it so millions of users can immediately know it is legit.
If they do not have simple verification that every user can see without any effort or having to do their own research, then the site is not going to make it to a new owner anyway. It will sputter out.
