Nice points about the difference in power for between- versus within-person causal effects. However, I found it disappointing they didn't even give a nod to behavior analysis or single-case research design in the framing. Hello!

Behavior analysis is much broader than ABA, but yes, the ABA reversal design is an example of a common research design used by behavior analysts that is an obvious precedent to the topic in the paper. For more, see https://doi.org/10.1037/a0032964

Going on my reading list! Of course we know the reverse is also true-- between-person effects don't translate to within-person effects, and we fallaciously make that conflation in risk and treatment models all the time.
