I listened to a podcast with a French physio who said that complete lack of intensity is as bad as overloading. If you want to reduce the load on the player you need to incorporate some high intensity and low volume like 20 minutes a game rather than no intensity altogether
I don’t really think travel comes into the equation. When you lost every game your body is used to playing every game and when that rhythm breaks you’re more at risk.
