In order for a new party to rise, one of the existing parties must fall. Because of math, not "collusion" or "conspiracy". The last time this happened was when the Whigs fell apart and the Republican party rose in their place. Also? You don't build 3rd parties from the top down. It doesn't work.

Even in multi-party democracies like they have in other countries, there are generally two large/strong parties, and a lot of little ones. The main difference is that they must form coalitions after elections, while we have to do so BEFORE. Also, we have the spoiler effect, they don't.

So yeah, sure, advocate for a better voting method than the deeply flawed Plurality voting method we use in the U.S. which is ONLY accurate when there are EXACTLY two choices (and in which 3rd parties are mostly spoilers). But until that's changed, vote STRATEGICALLY, don't vote your ego.

It would take a constitutional convention to change the fundamental structure of our system and change the way we conduct elections.

The GOP would love nothing more - they'd erase countless other things from the current constitution with a total do over.

Maybe so, but it requires a Constitutional Amendment that would have be drafted and passed by both houses of Congress, and then ratified by three-fourths of all the States in the US... so it's highly unlikely to happen any time soon. Not as long as the GOP retains a vice-like grip on rural states.

it's the natural conclusion to some basic tenants of the way our system works. i get why people dislike it, but i will never understanding voting based on a fictional world that you feel should exist
