I once asked a scientist whom I respect enormously her advice for a successful career and life in science.
Her advice: Leave every place better than you found it.
It surprises me that many people would try hard to do the compete opposite …
and we would elect them to run the country.

Obviously in politics the corollary is “Leave the place much worse than you find it and blame your predecessors and/or successors”
I may not always achieve it but I never leave without trying.
Sometimes the duty is to destroy what isn't serving its purpose so that another genuine attempt can be made
People constantly defend sunk cost as progress, but it's just forcing their children to live the same suffering~
Destroying paradigm does not equate destroying people
If someone spent decades working on something that ended up being nothing more than a delusional rabbit hole, is there much difference?
That's where nearly all modern scientific knowledge sits currently
We have dozens of critical paradigms pending bc of the personal cost
Good luck with whatever it is you’re dealing with paradigm-wise although I’m pretty sure that is not what the advice was about
But others would rather fight reality to defend their false sense of progress and contribution
