Under Trump’s DOE evangelical DeVos gave $millions to private and religious schools, including Texas RES, more of that will happen; and grants for higher education will be denied for “liberal” universities.

Something that confuses me -- and I want to understand this better to fight the right fight -- is that the incoming administration wants to make really restrictive rules for education, but wants to abolish the department that would enforce those rules; is there a roadmap for how they do it?

Federal funding doesn’t pay for the cost of curriculum so the state will have a bigger say in what’s taught. Bad for red states. He wants to give teachers higher pay which is needed but it will come from state funding. They will have to cut their budget in other areas. Teachers are selfless

This is what I wonder about, and I really want to learn more; the "vanilla" effect of devolving education to the states is that blue states will let teachers teach, and universities run themselves, and red states won't, triggering an exodus from the former to the latter.

Last thing. 😅 Trump wants the public schools to get a poor education and for all the wealthy kids to move to private. In his eyes, the poor educated kids won’t go anywhere and will stay quiet. The wealthy ones will follow his agendas. Sounds dramatic but he already targets the poor with fear

This is an extremely good and important point you make, and I'm not detracting from it when I say this: if this new administration block grants education to the states, blue states have a unique opportunity to showcase competence and draw employers/investment from red states with declining schools.

Trump has also stated that our schools hate our children and that our government provides the most funding than any other country but our test scores are the lowest. He makes zero sense

Critical race theory will likely be a subject eliminated which is incredibly unfortunate. I think the biggest think Trump wants out of the schools is discrimination protection which the Dept of education enforces. Dept of Education also collects and studies test scores which is important for funding

I’m not sure how “woke” our education even is in public schools. I think it’s more of a fear tactic to make white parents think their kids are being bullied into feeling guilty for being white. This isn’t happening. Students have access to more diverse books but a lot of red states pull LGBTQ+ books

There’s still teacher shortages so states will push for them to refrain from teaching any “woke” education so they will have enough teachers. However, I would think this will cause a bigger shortage because of the restrictions placed on teachers. These are just my thoughts

If the department is eliminated, no policies will exist. It will be up to the state and Trump has threatened to not give credentials to teachers that disobey. I imagine there’s more threats than this like not giving schools credentials. I imagine red states will screw the students more.

On the one hand, clearly so-- indeed, funding threats have been the main way that the government has sanctioned discrimination, and that's a good thing -- but how will that funding threat happen without a department? (I know it well may ... I wonder _how_).
