People see them only as collectibles instead of a actual experience. It's similar to cards or stuff like figures like funko pops. They only have them to display and have no intention on opening them. It frustrating seeing it as other people would enjoy playing or using then thing more

I maintain a similar feeling about Lego sets and games. The people who made these things put all that work in so that a Lego set would be built or that a video game would be played.

I think the idea of owning a sealed copy of a game is neat. But I consider the idea of actually playing the game to be more neat.

I feel that way about like boxed toys. Unless you're intending on starting a museum, what are you doing? Just... lookin at it?

I think about this a lot when it comes to collecting. Like, you get the thing. What are you doing with it?

Does it sit on a shelf? Ok, then it's functionally identical to a newly-printed replica.

Does it go into some special storage thing to preserve it? Then you might as well not have it

Same, I've always been a relatively minimalist person with what I own. Like, I like being able to look at my physical collection of games, but that's inherently because of my connection through playing with them, not just.... looking at them

So like with my MTG set binders I kind of view them as my “spellbooks”, as silly as that is.

And I always had a dream to eventually open a store again someday where I could have my sealed stuff be like a museum to show newer players what old stuff was like.

library so people could look stuff up or just go and see how the flavor and art of a set was. Also want to eventually make bindings so the binders slot in and look/feel like real magical times.

But I struggle with it, especially with having had to sell off a lot of that “dream” to survive.

The only argument I can see for this is when it's being actively used as an education tool in media history. But then its purpose is explicitly for the publics benefit so you can learn about it. Keeping a *private* sealed game collection feels like laminating every page of your personal bookshelf
