I've had two roofers. The first was excellent, the roof is overdue to be redone, it's been 20 years. But, I saw a neighbour getting work, asked for a quote, came right over (long before shingle prices went up) $3000 cash. Second roof, $10,000 Cash. I'm going steel roof if I can afford it next - ThreadSky

We went with aluminum roof and it’s fantastic. Costly but relief at never having to do it again in my lifetime. Contractor was on time and delivered what was promised.

Whew. I don't have that much life left in me. A steel roof would out live me. Matter of fact, a good shingle repair would outlive me LOL And he payments would still be going on, for the roof

One roof to ever buy… I wish more folks built with lifetime roofs. Had shop/barn done last year prep for solar… $47,000. That hurt. But I’ll never need to think about it.

I'm scared to install solar or even expensive steel roof. The cost of steel roof will never be in my budget, but I'll factor in the difference when I'm ready.
One home has too little sun for Solar, the other has plenty but winds so strong the roof peels every hurricane. And it's part-time residence
