I really don't think it's the best idea for newer comics creators to upload to places like webtoon. Not because of the format, far from it
- but because platforms like that come with rating systems, and it's pretty harsh when people rate bomb amatuer creators for contests or clout. It's demoralising

Also for such a large site its fundemental structure has not improved at all. Anyhow... as an oldie i am focusing on home sites now. Soooo done with mirrors.
Once I finish my current story arc I’m definitely gonna look into crossposting to more platforms.
I’ve been on #webtoon for years, and #enshittification is finally taking its toll. It’s all about numbers now.
These days, nearly all of the big comics are cookie-cutter, stiff, flashy, and loud. There’s no quality control. Just a lot of shouting (in the comic and the comments)
“Perform unpaid labor creating comics for our platform to use, and MAYBE you’ll win some money and get an exploitative contract!”
It’s gross 🤡

Webtoon’s audience skews young, and kids don’t have money 💸
I’d rather have 100 dedicated fans than 10k followers who read then forget about my work 2 seconds later.

I can see how a new or exclusive creator would be more hurt by it.
If the rating system is used as harassment tool then its better to do away with it and find a better recommendation tool.
(One that evaluate art on a binary scale)
I think rating systems are cool! But not when they are hyper focused on and used in those rating attacks you mentioned, and agree with having more faith in CF leadership and direction
Lots of folks mirror to find an audience, but always keep in mind that you should be making stuff for you in the end if it's a passion project too. Webcomics are a lot of work!
Yeah I do wanna mirror just to help with finding audiences, and hopefully set up my own website as well.
But I know it's important to make stuff for my own sake, especially given how much time and effort is going to be involved
"will this tank/boost the rating?"
I miss the simple times when we just drew comics and had no system that would hover over us. Numbers are scary...
here's a handy list of many of them that my friends and I at @screentonescast.bsky.social compiled a while ago https://screentonescast.com/view/116
I've been on it since launch and have loved the community.
I barely even swear in my comic, but I like having a space where I can do what I want and don't have to stress out about Constant Growth.
(Hi, I've been making webcomics for 25 years! 😂)
I don't entirely like some websites having a rating system for artwork
My artwork on Newgrounds got low ratings, and got even lower after a bit
I think the average was 3.5/5 stars, with me getting some artwork even below 3 stars, and directly told some of my artwork is "low quality"
Also the comments section doofuses that refuse to read and make that your problem somehow.
