The prying eyes nudge is supposed to make people adhere to norms. Here’s the original paper, describing a study set in a psychology department coffee room: https://doi.org/10.1098/rsbl.2006.0509. The research does not replicate, of course: https://doi.org/10.1024/1421-0185/a000058

Recently, because of building in the area, the rubbish bins have been replaced by a temporary solution: a larger container. The former nudge now finally has an actual use: as a sign indicating where to leave your full bin liners
