You need to tell windows to include your whole hard drive in the search and not just the my documents folder, and also tell it not to go off and search the internet for your files instead, before it'll be useful again

This is incorrect, I was in a filesystems-adjacent team at Microsoft. But then they found out I kinda know how to search for things, so they let me go. That's how I landed a job at Google.
