Yes please

If you want to read a new book coming out but don't want to buy it, a great thing you can do is ask your local library to order it. The more requests they get, the more likely they are to acquire it and then lots of people will get to read it who othewise wouldn't.

Yes! Most libraries have ways you can do this online too... super easy. Our Collections folks really do value the input.

I use the Libby app to read online books, and you can do a "deep search" to be notified when they've acquired a new book. Once you get that can join the waitlist.

And if, like me, you live in a state where books are literally banned in school (Texas), you can contribute to various nonprofits that supply these same books on request – as PDFs readable on any modern device – to any parent who requests them. (Also some, if not all, kids making the same requests.)

I also learned that if you have the Libby app and click “Notify Me 🛎️” on an audiobook or ebook, it counts as a request to the library too!

Libraries are great. But don't forget writers do this for a living and in many cases can't continue writing unless you buy their books. Bookstores can't stay in business unless you buy their books. Publishers can't afford to publish unless you buy the books they publish.
