This factoid comes from a survey conducted about a decade ago, after years of intense discourse about replication problems. But scientists having bad vibes about replication ≠ actual replication problems. The EO is doing "proxy politics" here: presenting the decision to keep schools remote should have been a "purely" scientific, non-political issue, with the implication that the other side is irrational and anti-scientific and therefore should be ignored

Framing DEI initiatives as violations of scientific integrity. A major weakness of scientific integrity plans (both pre and during Biden) is that they rely on undefined notions of "political interference."

Without being clear about *which* values or *which* kinds of influence are a problem, the vague notion of "scientific integrity" is easily weaponized

Despite there being lots of conceptual and empirical work showing more inclusive science is epistemically better!

This is a widespread idea: that trust in science requires value-free science. But it actually hasn't really been tested empirically!

AFAIK the only two studies that have tested it don't find that value-free science is more trustworthy.
