The problem is people think the trauma we, as Indigenous people, have to endure somehow magically ended with colonization. But we are not so far removed from the horrors of that history and acting like we are is exactly how it gets repeated.

To our eternal shame. Denmark did the same with the Inuit peoples of Greenland, and Australia mirrored this with the indigenous aboriginal peoples. This will not be fixed quickly, it will take generations, and the goodwill/intent of all.
