One of my favorite tariff 'developments' of the past week was the news that the US and China were progressing on trade talks, just to have someone (presumably the Chinese) leak that the 'progress' was that they were having another phone call.

Which is why it's too soon to describe them as a disaster. People are underestimating how well companies can reroute through lower tariffed countries. tariff Implementation will be slow. They are being readjusted. Oil is cheap which blunts inflation. production efficiency will get a boost.

Since all countries have tariffs on them now there are no low tariff countries. And when Apple tried that with India look what happened. Low oil prices are a signal of slowing economic growth. You also neglect impact of uncertainty on investment and tariffs imposed on US exports.

Store shelves on the West Coast will start to empty after next week just from the reduced traffic over the previous month of 145% tariffs on Chinese goods. New goods will take a couple months to actually reach store shelves l, and that's assuming no delays at any level of the supply chain.
