I'm sure I remember a few months back a plane doing a long journey (UK-US?) on sustainable fuel, but interviews at the time sounded like it wasn't quite the brilliant solution we're looking for
I mean there are two issues as I understand it - synthetic hydrocarbons only make sense at all if you’re making them using genuinely surplus zero-carbon energy, otherwise you’re burning fossil fuels to make fake fossil fuels. Also you’re still burning hydrocarbons in the upper atmosphere.
