Check the rescues and shelters. Oh! Don’t forget the pound. And you say a small dog? I have my second chihuahua, a dog I wouldn’t have given a nickel for in years gone by. They are the friendliest, funniest, most loving dogs. They CAN be a bit clingy, but they bring a lot of joy, and love.

We adopted a 16-year-old blind Yorkie. Our home and yard were new to her, so she learned by going in enlarging circles. Lived to about 20. "Precious" as in 'life is'.

We recently adopted a 10 year old girl that was left at a shelter when her original owner had to go to a home where dogs were not allowed. So sad that nobody in the family was in a position to take her. But she is with us now😄

We’ve had two rescues including the old boy in my profile picture. He was 11 when we got him mainly because nobody else wanted such an old boy. Our other one a Jack Russell was only 4 and made it to 16. I gave my heart to both and they gave me their’s in return. I miss them every day.

This 100%. My old boy went to a rescue centre after his owner died, and was accompanied by his 4 year old brother. He was 8. The 4 year old got adopted instantly, Charlie got left behind. He was overlooked for so long, the centre owner had to take him into her house.

I adopted this guy. He was 8 when I got him. He lost his whole family in Spain, due to the death of his owner following his wife going into care for dementia. Then a failed adoption where he was being abused. He’d been through it. Here he is the very next morning after I brought him home. Charlie ❤️🐾
