So far, what I've seen has not impressed me at all. A lot of questionable game design decisions, and a nearly complete about-face on what Civilization even IS. I don't think I'll be playing this one, and maybe when it's time for Civ8, it'll be better.

Checkers is easy. All you have to do is know the difference between black and white and move sideways a lot, hopping over all the black pieces and taking them off the board. When you get to the other end, you tell people you're now a king.

I've got the ps5 version and it's come a long way since I played by first game but it's definitely still rocky. I played through my 2nd Civ last weekend and it crashed at least once an hour.

I like a bunch of the mechanics I see, but one thing boggles me and makes me not buy it. At the end of every Age, everyone is zeroed out on a bunch of stuff, particularly they all get the full research of the previous Age and start from scratch on the new Age's research.

And all your cities except the capitol turn to towns and you have to pay to upgrade them again, if you want. Thankfully, towns and villages can have mondo benefits.

I actually kinda like the ages thing? Even though I'm crap at the second (exploration) one.

Have you tried to do an economic win in an age yet? I tried in the Antiquity age and the Resources UI and trade route conditions made it nigh impossible. I ended up with a science win for that age but my god I was having a bad time.

It is good!! I really like some of the mechanic changes that they have made around diplomacy, and I like how they have structured the different age goals. I waited until after they did the first patch and it really hasn't been that buggy for me. Getting used to no builders has been a change though.

Migrants work as an instant builder now and they just have to be in a city/town to work. Also it's nice settlers can take a hit now instead of being insta-captured.
