The ones you'd need to target are the ones with disproportionately larger numbers of voters

But precincts with lots of voters inevitably have lots of people willing to show up to defend against intimidation tactics

That's why Rs focus on the courts instead

TBF, if you're trying to flip from red to blue, there's several precincts in the major cities in those states you know are going to be 99% blue, if you can just completely shut them down, that would probably do it.

(of course... the logistics aren't there and the effort would backfire massively.)

Yes, you are right. I suspect that media portrayals of the military and police have created a false perception that they "can" do anything because that's the plot of the story where the logistics are edited out. Logistics. Logistics can not be "edited out" from repressive regimes either.

Isn’t that the easy play though? “poll watchers" begin challenging people‘s ballots or confronting folks providing water to voters in line. Others show up to defend them. Violence ensues and is used as an excuse to either shut the place down or severely limit access.

And of course cheating by courts afterwards has the benefit that you know how people voted, and so you can get where you want with only minimal manipulation, which looks less like cheating.

if voter intimidation were so effective, they wouldn't need to do all the other shit (gerrymandering, gutting the VRA, restrictive ID laws) that *is* proven to be effective, but is a) way more expensive & b) far more time-consuming.
