It's pretty simple...use PPSN numbers...that will sort this out pretty quick.

However it's done, we need some unique number/refs for each voter. The current system is dated and in need of an overhaul.

You can't vote for Dail and local elections if you live in the north. I'm all for a National ID card (which should be free, like other EU member states).

Years ago I worked on a project with some input from a government department. At the time, we were told that PPSNs were not universally unique & that there were some incompleteness in the system that stopped it from being used as a universal ID number.

That may have been fixed by now, or not.
