When my husband and I visited his native Poland together, in 2010, I tried to convince him to move there, as I'd lived in Luxembourg in 1988 and felt more at home there than I did in the USA 🇺🇸.
Had we done it, he'd likely still be alive today. 💞💔💞
What we see in this comparison is the business of health, versus health as a business. Surviving sickness or injury should never be a matter of dissolving your assets to survive.
Just came from 3 hours in the ER. I took a fall and thought I'd broken my hand. After x-rays (no broken bones), medication for pain, and a consult with the doctor. My bill as I walked out....zero!
It's not free in Canada as hospital gouge you for parking but they have no choice as many provincial governments short change them constantly. Just look at Ontario's budget released today, NOTHING for health care so hospitals have no choice but to gouge.
Don't blame the people, blame the undemocratic electoral system that breeds voter apathy. In 40 plus years of voting I have never helped to elect a representative so why should I vote? I do but why when my and so many other's votes don't count? 60% of those who voted did not vote for Ford.
Yet, you gave him a majority government with less than 20% of the eligible voters. That's okay, 80% of the population can now whine about not voting for him.
60% of the people who voted DID NOT give Ford a majority government. People don't vote because the electoral system is unfair and undemocratic. That said the previous Liberal government ignored health care as well and is when hospitals made gouging for parking the norm.
This is true. Of the two hospitals nearest me, one you pay about $5 for no matter how long your stay, the other one about $8, but you could park on the street (free) around the corner and walk over if you're able.
I recently took my mother to the hospital, the thousand dollars was about correct per day… Living in the USA if I get hurt, the first thing I think is how much is this going to cost, and if able-bodied I will drive myself because ambulance rides can cost upwards of $10,000!
My husband was life-flighted from one hospital to another in Chattanooga, seven miles apart, and the bill for it was . . . wait for it . . . US $79,000.
Our Heathcare isn't Free, we pool our Reasources by paying higher taxes. Which allows us as a society to lower the cost for all. This makes Canadians healthier and more stable as a Nation.
I think it's important to note this because we Choose to take care of each other.
The phrase that used to be used about the NHS is 'free at the point of delivery'. That's been chipped away for dental and optical and pharmacy prescriptions but the core hospital and medical remains free at the point of delivery. Though Reform want to change to the USA model for reasons of grift.
Our🇨🇦 General Heathcare is getting screwed with at the Provincial level(who control healthcare). While we never had dental, optical, or pharma. The Federal government have passed and funded Dental and some pharma.
Our Conservative party or Tories were taken over by our Reform Fascist assholes and the traitors want to become the 51st state. They don't say because it's wildly unpopular even with their moronic voters but it's obvious that's their intention. Which would mean 100% private for profit Healthcare.
My son was in a motorcycle accident last year in Albania. Fortunately, it happened right in front of a new state of the art hospital. After three days he walked out and the care was totally free.
America really is the bad place. Antiquated infrastructure, horrible healthcare, pitiful pay, and vacation vacuums. It's sad that we've been told all our lives that a country that glorifies the dollar and not the human being, it's somehow a good place. America really is the bad place!!!
Americans can pay thousands of dollars a month for their private healthcare insurance and still have to pay those out of pocket expenses. Nobody ACTUALLY thinks Canadian healthcare is free. At least you won't go bankrupt from medical bills if you get cancer.
That's cheap in some areas. I had to drive myself for a blood transfusion, which included a retest of my iron levels and multiple people trying to get the needle in.
"Daily Parking · Each half hour or less (to a maximum of 2.5 hours) - $4.00 · Day rate (2.5 hours to midnight) - $19.00"
I understand that free parking means others will use it, especially in busy areas. However, a token system where you get them after treatment would make more sense.
I’m 55 and have bladder cancer and have ongoing treatments, imaging, surgeries and appointments. I’m perimenopausal, have high bp, have degenerative disc, and just diagnosed with adult ADHD. Out of pocket expenses? Almost zero. We do need to expand national pharmacare though.

Our for-profit "healthcare" system is killing us.
Far too many of my compatriots are like that.
Especially for any Nation thinking itself Great..
Thanks you lazy MOFOS
There is NO EXCUSE!!
I am done talking about this. Have a wonderful day Dave! 🥰☮️
If we educate our children they will more than return that investment with taxes in the future.
It's completely insane.
And immoral.
All I had to do was pay for the bus ticket.
I think it's important to note this because we Choose to take care of each other.
We pay for our Healthcare through our taxes!
😄
