And it was factually wrong. Because in the Dred Scott decision (1857) SCOTUS said that Black people could not be citizens. It rendered enslaved Black people AND free Black people stateless.The 14th Amendment overturned Dred Scott to ensure Black citizenship.

Sauer keeps saying the amendment was suppose to apply to "former slaves" but the actual text of the 14th amendment is "all persons born or naturalized in the united sates," i thought conservatives were big text guys
