I haven't seen it yet, but I've seen a lot of rage baiting thumbnails on YouTube that I'm refusing to click on principal. Plus if I watch anything criticising Star Wars or Trek, YouTube immediately jerks my algorithm hard right and tries to drown me in "anti-woke" commentators.
It truly sucked 😂😂😂😂 Comically sucked. Everybody was a live action cartoon. It tried too hard to be edgy and sexy. As much as I love the emperor she's not enough to carry a series.
Section 31 has a very specific time and place it worked for DS9 and I would argue it hasn't really worked for anything else. And even in DS9 the section 31 episodes at least for me tend to be weaker I would rather watch Ferengi episodes than an episode with Edgy McDarkspy.
Also they almost exclusively work because Edgie McDarkspy is almost exclusively cast as antagonistic to the ideals of the show and in particular it's cast against the idealistic conscience of the medical doctor on the show. DS9 couldn't be clearer that when Starfleet goes rogue it's bad.
Like people I fear sometimes misread those episodes where Sisko does bad things for the right reasons and over accentuate the it's easy to be good in Paradise line. Largely because section 31 at least in theory shows that Starfleet isn't good even in Paradise.
Which really only strengthens the need for those episodes to counterweight and say no these rogue events are not what star fleets about. It's people like Bashir who exemplify the federation ideal that are the people who are right.
Which sets me up as a person who hasn't even seen the movie to be like, "the people that made this fundamentally failed to understand what the show was saying about section 31". By making them protagonists and good guys rather than the antagonist or part of a complicated antagonist stew.
