After mainlining garden content, I keep seeing videos in my feed about "chirp-cuterie" boards for wild birds and thinking...yall must not have rats where you are...

I have a special super hot sauce that I add to all my birdseed now that keeps squirrels and rats out of it. LMK if you want the link! It took a couple of weeks for it to take effect, but now I don't have anything eating my birdseed except birds.
I gave up feeding the birds and squirrels because of a mouse and rat started showing up. I still carry raw peanuts with me for the crows I see on my walks.
My first thought too. Our neighbors have a bird feeder that the squirrels climb up and dump onto the ground every few days (probably whenever the spilled feed from the last time runs out).
I have two baffles and they still manage to spill seeds everywhere. I have just given up and let them spill so the mourning doves, juncos, and towhees can enjoy the seeds as well. (And probably rats and raccoons at night 😬)
Seattle rats are shameless, they will come forage in your garden in the middle of the damn day. A local rat and I jump-scared each other simultaneously the other day at like 2pm
I once had one poke its head out of the hedges right next to me when I was sitting on the patio at our Rainier Beach rental. And rather than being scared, it just looked at me like "Oh, sorry, didn't know you were here" and went back into the hedge.
We don't have rats in this neighborhood. We are over run with feral cats. The lady on the corner feeds them, and leaves the garage open for them. They multiply like rabbits. The dogs kill them all the time but it doesn't seem to put a dent in their population.
