Eh, I mean EMBER goes well beyond CalFIRE's recommendations around fire safe design in fairness.
As someone who did a subdivision in the San Bruno hills near a genuine really high fire danger open space, Berkeley is asking for a lot more than we needed to do.
Are we mixing sets of rules? EMBER, as it applies to existing homes, is different than what the city requires for new construction. When I compare EMBER to what the State of California is working on promulgating under AB 3074, it doesn't seem that different. Am I missing something?
The conspiracy theorists proposing that EMBER is part of a nefarious plan to expand Missing Middle housing is the most unhinged so far, but the posts about recalling Brent Blackaby come a close second.
You know when you hit your knee really hard or whatever and just have to stop and take in the pain for a bit before you can move? I get that with California voters sometimes.
except when it's discrimination by the Old Boomers with their rose-colored glasses trying to preserve the way things were and not adapting to the way things are. Let's fuck over the next generations (more than we already have) to preserve our septuganarian bitterness
I've basically banned myself from Nextdoor until after the next election because I don't think my heart can handle all the Menlo Park ballot measure bollocks.
Now that you mention it, it really is kind of amazing, some of the stuff people will say when it's attached to their real name and everyone knows to within a mile or so where they live.
Kinda shoots down that idea that "people are nasty online b/c they get to be anonymous."

City: “we’re creating rules to reduce the spread of fire so that if it does happen it’s less likely to burn down your home”
ND: “but my bougainvillea is over 30 years old and is the reason my my property value is high!”
