Tony Windsor made explicit reference to Bananaby Joyce's role in that on The Sunday Shot interview last Sunday.

Joyce verbally requested regional service obligations in privatisation legislation, OK'd the deal, then didn't make sure it was in writing. wtf.

...and (to continue, it's a bugbear of mine..) it's the biggest rort out. The sites belong to a telco. If you're not signed up to that telco, you don't get coverage. So Optus users come up from the city for the weekend & their phones don't work...and we locals are locked into Telstra.

Yeah, that's what shits me too (and Vodfone!). The very process that awarded Telstra the keys to the vault has been even worse for customers who have no choice. In Vaughan Springs just outside Castlemaine the property in the valley can only use Telstra and the property on the hill only Optus!

Actually nothing to do with McGowan (as she basically admitted) - she nominated 3 sites, 2 of those were accepted but (I think) about 7 were approved - so she didn't even get all of her preferred sites up.

Perhaps Starlink could be partially subsidized by the Federal Government for regional Australians. Or force the telecommunications companies into using Starlink network or forcing Starlink to share their services with the telecommunications companies. Ether way a solution is achievable.
