Now, was this explicitly an epistemic authority-related project? No, it wasn't.
But I really, REALLY hope y'all can see how this is yet another case where lack of epistemic authority on the part of the folks that design these systems directly leads to transphobic outcomes that are hard to counter
I'd argue this is also why we need to really double down on seeing critique itself as a top-tier contribution to Computer Science. Critique is an excellent format for taking advantage of how different perspectives have unique epistemic authority to wield as a tool to improve systems overall.
