And of course, we relied on, and tried to synthesise, the research evidence, modelling and data from the huge community of scientists, professionals, and bodies such as UKHSA, ONS, and similar internationally. 11/13

Thank you all for your invaluable and clear communications at such a challenging time. Plus, the ongoing efforts from you and your colleagues on these platforms
@chrischirp.bsky.social thanks for sharing this. I had no idea that there was a weekly independent sage broadcast. Thanks to you and all your colleagues for the guidance and transparency during the pandemic.
All in all, I'm immensley proud of what we achieved as a group.
While of course we made mistakes and would do some things differently with hindsight, I hope that our experience will inform other similar initiatives in future emergencies. Perhaps even a comms strand within Govt SAGE structure. 12/13
You’re still needed imo as Covid is still going strong & most working aged adults aren’t vaccinated, unlike in other countries where vax are more widely available. The quest for clean air in public buildings is also very important.
PS3 on a personal note, I learned so much from my Indie SAGE colleagues and it changed forever my perspective on public health, policy, mathematical modelling and the unique contributions from a rainbow of scientific disciplines.
Hi, Christina. Is there any movement to refloat the IndependentSAGE if/when H5N1 (or whichever flu) goes pandemic? Earlier, even? Doesn't have to be frequent. #H5N1BadSoonScenario
Thank you all for your huge, often unpaid, contributions to making the world a safer place.
As politicians continue to ignore the science with regard to public health, pandemic response etc, we surely need an august body like Indie Sage now more than ever before.
How can we help foster such a body?
