50 years ago today, when Britain voted to remain in Europe (and not by a small majority but a large one), the Sun, Daily Mail, Telegraph, etc were not owned by three far-right Europhobes.

It must be remembered that 50 years ago we were voting on the Common Market. Europe ballooned into a vastly different beast in the following years.
I’m pretty sure we would have voted to stay in a modern Common Market without many of the ‘extras’.
I don't think the UK would get member states to vote for our inclusion. Far to many xenophobic people spoiling it. We'd win a referendum on the subject, but joining would always be a hurdle we couldn't jump. Giving up the pound and open borders would get in the way. I have a dream we join again 🙏
Are the owners Europhobic, or are they acting primarily in their own self-interest, and everyone else should just follow suit? And so they bend the rules and lie until it suits their own interests, regardless of the price for others?

Ireland and United Kingdom joined the EC* together in 1973.
Just adding that for historical purposes.
Ireland 🇮🇪 Denmark 🇩🇰 UK 🇬🇧
All joined 1st Jan, 1973
There was once a question in which the answer was a football match between a team of the six original members and a team of the three new joiners.
It was so quirky that it stuck!

“When the world says Britain hasn't a snowball in hell's chance of going it alone, is that the time to say NO?”

I could be wrong.
On the other side i doubted it is often "just europhIc" and often greed is a main part in actions taken.
I didn't want to limit the reasons, but expand them.
