A couple of things.
I remember on our one and only Islay trip visiting the Kilchoman distillery. Their oldest was still only about 3 or 4 years old and when shown around we saw a barn full of bourbon casks. Dozens. And every single one with a customer's name on.

When we flew up to Inverness to pick up the £500 Lexus we spent the afternoon with the old boy selling it. He was retired from Customs & Excise as was and had a few stories to tell. Part of his job was spot checks on distilleries to compare production and stock.
