If you have a primary care doctor or another medical professional who knows your situation, talk to them about some therapists they’d recc! That’s how I found my therapist and she’s fantastic.
I found mine through Alma. Kinda like Zocdoc but for therapists. Happy with the one I found a year and a half ago. Agree with “don’t settle”. Find someone you like! ❤️
Seconding the above reply and also I straight up googled the kind of therapy I needed (DBT) and called/emailed whoever popped up
Not to say this isn't exhausting but that's how I found my therapist (that and a lot of begging therapists with no availability to point me in the right direction)
I’m agreeing with this. I liked the advanced search function on Psychology Today, but I also dug through referrals through other therapists’ websites.
(I specifically looked for LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy groups on Google, including my state and/or insurance. Time consuming but worth it.)
Also!! My therapist is on Alma, and that's a good like, therapist specifically search engine for whatever is in your area, (depending on if it's in your area!) you can filter for specifics and I believe set appointments on there.
Seconding psychology today because my primary care just told me “go online and find someone in your network” no referrals or anything 🙄 psychology today broke down what I was looking for, in my network, and it also lets you directly email them. They got back to me within the same week. Good luck 💕
My therapy tip is don’t settle! You can absolutely do a few sessions with a therapist, and if you’re not feeling them then it’s totally valid to find someone new! It’s hard starting over, but you definitely want someone who you’re going to feel comfortable with if you’re doing therapy long term!
