Soooo this is kinda true in a sense. Both Republicans (politicians) and Democratic pollsters believe that the electorate hates immigrants, and being as vocally anti- immigrant as possible wins the most votes. Democratic politicians don't personally believe this, but they think it's good politics.

It's getting very hard to avoid the conclusion that a major problem with the Democratic Party right now is that its consultancy and other agenda-defining members more or less agree with Republicans on immigration

I am reminded of two polls from some years back, where a majority opposed socialized medicine, but would support a system of national health care.
They don't understand the electorate. They don't understand what we want or what resonates. Time to ditch them.
