Just use anything that'll hold water! My work-place recently had its lights replaced - I managed to get hold of most of the old fittings. Large plastic roundels - very easy to clean, and last for ages! The important thing is to wash the bird-baths frequently.

I wanted to put a bird bath out front that I could see from my front window.
I looked at the price of ceramic birdbaths and thought twice.
I ended up using a large ceramic drip tray and put it on an unused plant stand.
I saw a robin and a finch both sipping from it this morning.
