the grocery store by us has a guard with a taser parked right by the door, the other closest one has a guard that wanders the isles too. the next one past that in a nicer neighborhood has no guards and self checkouts with one (1) cashier

it's upsetting! i didn't consent to living in a society this militarized and tbh i was pretty unprepared for it. i saw it creeping up around me but there was nothing i could do to stop it and now it's here and it makes me nervous and irritable

For real, this is part of the reason why I left Colorado. Too many guns. Too many angry people with no personality with too many guns. A healthcare center and supermarket I went to have been shot up.
Of course, the state overall has gone more blue now, but that's mainly because Denver is bigger.

Oh no, I’m from Colorado and have never thought of it as particularly gun-heavy as US states go. Are you referring to King Soopers in Boulder or a different grocery store?

Yeah, the King Soopers in Boulder and the Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs. When I went to the PP in CS, it was in the previous, less secure location than the location it was shot up at.
I lived in Durango for a bit too. A lot of gun nuts in the Western part of the state.

Yeah, I know rural Colorado is more conservative, but…ugh. I grew up in Boulder (my high school was a few minutes from the King Soopers). Like with the Pearl Street attack, it’s hard to reconcile such evil in a town with such caring people.
