The 1935 Morane-Saulnier MS.405 / 406 was the first modern fighter aircraft (closed cockpit, retractable landing gear, monoplane) of the 1930s to enter service with French Air Force units. It was also the first French fighter to exceed 400 km/h. Here is a video of prototype n°01.
