The speed in the dashboard and especially the speed of navigating the site via shell and running WP-CLI commands. All our sites run on Kinsta, including the huge Barn2 site which WP Engine couldn’t cope with (to be fair, this was years ago), and we’re very happy with them.

I promise if they couldn’t handle it years ago, it wouldn’t have gotten better. We’re seeing downward trends with performance.

Matt should’ve just waited them out and let people stop using them naturally.

Obviously WordPress core should work to be as performant as possible in every situation, but it's amazing how quick and snappy the block editor feels on a decently powered host.

I was actually in the process of going the other way until the drama. Now we are working to get off WP altogether. One time our site @ kinsta went down because we started a backup. I am not impressed with their reliability. Have had to have them kill procs or migrate us to different servers.

I still think its hilarious that in 2025 people are still using rudimentary CMS's rather than rolling actual built to spec apps. But i digress... I have never seen a valid use case for WP, unless it was from someone without any programming ability who just wants a simple site.. I just don't get it.

Sorry, you seemed to have misunderstood. I am not grandstanding, I have actually used, maintained, and programmed for WP when necessary. Doesn't answer the question as to why it exists though. I get that it is older and predates some of the more modern performant solutions, but damn.

WP solves the use-case of allowing non-technical people to quickly and easily edit web content. Sure I could hand-code everything or use a js framework for every landing page, but at the end of the day, when you're looking at the simple act of quickly managing content visually, it's WP.

You are under the assumption that there aren't countless other ways to allow laypeople to edit content with other systems including those that are bespoke? While i get you likely have to toe a line.. yikes, thats a misinformed take. To each there own I suppose.. I won't bother you any longer.

Of course there are countless ways to edit content, including this one that is used by like a third of the internet. Why would I build a custom app for everything? Why are we having this conversation? What was the point of this?

Kinsta is superb. I recently had to move some sites away and the experience was not fun.

My only real complaint is the recent switch to limiting PHP memory and having to pay for more.

I think they are worth every penny but not all smaller clients can afford them where I'm based.

We have clients on WPE as well, and I too have to noticed speed issues. I've never used Kinsta, and I'm sure it's great.

I have however migrated a few clients to DigitalOcean using Forge. It's crazy to see a basic VPS, that costs a fraction of the price, outperform a "WP-optimized" managed host.
