Great intro to how the navy S and the pirate life S too and then cool continental adventure, ship coup and get away followed by the retirement hit and becoming enemy of mankind, this was everything i expected from a RL pirate and more.

Just an alternative for what happened to Avery: a rogue siren medical AI latched onto his ship & kidnapped any injured crew. With the help of the 11th Doctor he sailed off in the siren’s spaceship to be a space pirate (sorry, but having seen this DW ep I can’t help but see Hugh Bonneville as Avery)

So, fun fact about The Battle of Beachy Head which you mention in episode 1. One of the casualties of that battle was Burwell Walpole, older brother to Robert Walpole.
Without Burwell's death, Robert would likely not have inherited his father's estate and political career.

Robert, of course, went on to become Britain's first prime minister. It was his political and procedural skill that helped carve out that office within British politics. Without him, it's possible that not only the political succession of Britain would have been different, but possibly

Robert Walpole's influence was profound, and even though he was a corrupt rascal of a politician (and got caught & imprisoned) he shaped everything that followed. His longevity in the job (the longest serving PM to this day) meant he MADE that job what it is.

Burwell was just 15 when he was killed in that battle.
It's... shocking to think of putting someone in their mid teens into such a dangerous situation as a naval battle. Not only because they are just a child, but also... when I was fifteen I could break things just by looking at them.
