i took my wife to a Game 7 for her first hockey game (Lightning vs Red Wings) and it set a bar no game in any sport could reach since. We went to a Game 1 the next years's playoff and she was like, "that's it?"
My first game was a late season Atlanta Thrashers at Florida Panhers game. Both teams were well out of the playoffs, so we got two tickets about 8 rows up center ice with a parking pass for like $60. It was incredible.
Online hockey fans also had this weird obsession with LeBron James in the 2010s in a way that felt like there were things they wanted to say that they didn’t feel comfortable saying aloud
I think the randomness of the schedule kills it. Before I had a kid and adult professional responsibilities, I was a die hard STL Blues fan. Now I never even know when they play. NFL is popular because of gambling and schedule predictability IMO.
