This guys blocklists are great and worth looking into to avoid those annoying bot/spam accounts!

My Blocklists are found on the Lists tab on my profile. This thread details each. I'll take submissions w/evidence for any that match listing criteria.

Instructions:

1. Select / View the list
2. Tap 'Subscribe' on the top right
3. Choose 'Block' or 'Mute' to add the whole list (+ any future adds)

Thanks for the heads-up! ❤️ Tho I really wish Bsky would just implement an "approve follower" function for users like Fedi has, as it would solve so much of this. You could set your mentions, DMs and comments to be from "followers only", and then all the bots, trolls and scammers can't bother you.

Sadly we should consider any account like it for a likely scam until verified. It's just too profitable to play on a human suffering.

And this block is important for those that risks impulsively giving; as it feeds scammers and not those in need

I philosophically disagree with the notion that we should assume people suffering from a genocide are scammers until proven innocent. And since this block list does not and cannot include all such accounts, scammers will find their way to reach their victims.

From what I’ve seen, he doesn’t want to put real people on the lists and will remove if that’s the case! It’s all based on bot behaviour

I believe this is ignorance rather than malice but that also means someone has to go through his entire list and check each account, when, alternatively, this list could simply not exist

I'm of the mind that a vast majority of begging accounts are not in good faith and anyone signal boosting them needs to be hyper vigilant. All of the ones I've seen reposted were not in good faith (even if they aren't bots). A trustworthy aid charity is a much better donation for things like this.

How can you tell which ones are in good faith and which ones aren't? The curator of the blocklist told me that he looks for patterns associated with spam accounts but doesn't check individual cases too deeply.

If you can't tell, then better not give to that one. Better to find ones we can verify

It's a common issue with beggars and charity, but there are people that does spend time to check for the rest of us

Consistent post schedule, reusing the same content across accounts, account only exists for this, the huge number of them. While I'm sure there are legit ones, it's one of those things where it's so hard to vett and so clearly exploited that you're likely burning money. Trusty aid orgs are better!

Gotta be careful with blocklists though! Some of the creators I follow (can't find/remember who exactly) have posted about being on some AI blocklists, despite never using AI in their art. Wouldn't shock me if there's similar issues with bot blocklists

Oh absolutely! Mistakes are made but what I like about this guy is that he is willing to listen and adjust the lists if he’s made a mistake!

Thanks for sharing! Theses are the only block lists I've seen that actually seem pretty reasonable instead of just vibes based. Super obvious low hanging fruit... a scammer/maga/beggar bot is clear to see from a mile away.
