Calling Bluesky an echo chamber misses the point, because what Bluesky offers is a chance to redefine how humans treat one another online, where so many of us live. https://www.thestar.com/opinion/star-columnists/bluesky-may-be-our-chance-to-build-the-type-of-online-world-that-x-has/article_6388de2c-ab76-11ef-a52c-7765c90f5356.html

Disagree if one wishes, but don't jump into an exchange in full attack mode.
Tone matters.
Block. Block. Block the trolls.
Bullies without manners hiding behind a keyboard.;
#mastodon #fediverse
Gesundheit! ... ;-)
Yes, I would also have preferred a platform owned by a non-profit to be the winner in this race , but as long as the platform is outside the control of a single entity, I can live with it.
I write this from a PC running a free version of Zorin Linux, and that would not have been possible without companies like Redhat and Canonical.
Report, block, and forget. Don’t engage the haters.
I would argue that we still need to try because I don’t see how we deprogram our neighbors otherwise, but I fully agree that the self abuse of staying on X isn’t going to help, so why suffer it? Anyways, thanks for the read. 👍🏻
But this place is fun, with plenty potential rabbit holes!
I've debated with people I disagree with on Bluesky already, But it's respectful. Not aimed at trying to hurt the other person.
“My opposing viewpoint must justify its existence, they must be compelled to respond to my worldview”
Abusive behaviour is freedom. Leaving of one's own free will is censorship!
Blocking me when I follow you over to Bluesky is dystopian.
Like maybe you've heard that line so much that it feels like you're never allowed to speak, but when you think everyone else is an asshole..
I still pop over to Twitter a couple of times a day, and man... you know how when you're away from home for a while, and you first walk back in, you realize your house kinda smells? That's Twitter to me. Like, I knew it was bad. But when you step away for a bit, you see JUST how bad.
+ low affective empathy
+ a dollop of sadism
= a nasty online troll.
This one provides a reminder of where many of them are actually coming from.
Just like DuckDuck.go was bought in silence by GOOGLE many years ago! it runs totally on GOOGLE search engines!
At least Blue Sky is attempting to prevent that.
My bookshelf and movie collection is also an echo chamber, I guess.
Nailed it Bruce.
That's it. It's never been complicated. Twitter had it years ago, Threads has never had it.
Hearing the other side just cements my beliefs
The problem with the other place was debate became a visceral hate, fuelled by disinformation.
This is a great article. And this quote? This part was *chef's kiss*
X: I hear uneducated weirdos and racists
Bluesky is for the grown-ups who value opinions, even when they differ from their own, & are willing to interact in an adult manner.
Bluesky ≠ echo chamber
🤣🤣🤣
I'm done. My online space is *under my control*, and I'll mute or block those who ended America, for my health.
Bluesky: free speech we actually want
I've seen plenty of opposing debates here.
Musky Xers don't want debates. They want racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, and all things bigotry and harassment.
The lack of those things does not an echo-chamber make.
It's what you make it! You're in control!💪
"It’s also an attempt to drown progressive ideas, which while imperfect are almost always more humane than conservatism."
This is exactly what they're trying to do on Twitter.
It’s hilarious people call Bluesky an echo chamber. There’s no debating scientific evidence. They lie & we accept it as an opinion. 🤷🏼♀️
Two separate interpretations, both are correct.
Data is not always black/white. It requires interpretation. There is ALWAYS a debate about what the evidence means. Because, even after a consensus is reached, there are still questions.
Interpretation matters, but so does motive..either way the data doesn’t change.
Lilley springs to mind, he puts out opinion pieces & uses one of his opinion pieces as facts. Mind boggling.
Listen to TWiV. This is one of many podcasts where they debunk the lab leak theory

Personally I welcome differing views & adult discussions on why those views are held. It's good to look at an issue from a different perspective - something that is impossible on X as it usually results in name calling & insults.
