In its first 100 days, the Trump Administration has relied heavily on ambiguity, misdirection, and plausible deniability to accomplish its aims. It’s a model that has parallels to other countries that have slid into autocracy, Andrew Marantz writes.

"Is the U.S. Becoming an Autocracy ?" ... you asked.
from a distance : If the Democrats don't find a common ground quickly ( the Reps will put some effort in it - so they won't ) ... my answer is a clear : " YES ".
The core feature of Trump and the Republican party is LYING.
They could not survive with the truth. They saturate their supporters especially the working class with nonstop lies, false narratives and lies that fortify hate/division in America.
Unfortunately, lying works. Little or no consequences!
1/ It is a bit like the so called "climate change debate". It went on for decades after people woke up to it in the early 1980s, even though the essential physical argument was established by Svante Arrhenius in the 1890s. Is Trump creating an autocracy? Yes he is, and here is why .....
2/ (1) Trump has the personality, the skills and the resources to create an autocracy. (2) The US is stagnating under huge levels of government, corporate and private debt. The ultra wealthy hold this debt as iassets they want to protect, so they enable a would be dictator. That is it essentially.
3/ Arrhenius showed carbon dioxide absorbs escaping infrared produced by the Earth, then re-emits some of it back towards the Earth, so temperatures rise. The industrial use of fossilised carbon increases this effect. That is existentially it. It was in 1896 and still is in 2025.
4/ The only real ? is how does the proven reality explain the facts. At what rate will it happen? Why here? Why now? and so on. Why autocracy in Russia & China but not Chile at the moment? for example. How long till competitive Turkey or India becomes autocracy?
5/ In an economic environment unfavorable to democracy does the power of the captured US state do more to empower would be dictators or would be saviors of democracy? There is a question that needs answering.
