What will happen here is that smaller publishers will not be able to pay and larger ones will. This will hurt smaller publishers, limit their reach and the big publishers will be no worse for wear. I am a person with two books from Indie publishers. I probably wouldn't have got reviewed under this. - ThreadSky

So what would be great is if not just publishers but lots of the industry stopped caring about PW reviews. That would include, libraries, universities and book shops and other places that look at these reviews as a indicator of whether they should stock/include the book in their collections.

PW is one of the few trade journals that review us consistently, so I am predisposed in their favor. This is pretty disappointing though. I'm imagining that they are pretty overwhelmed but this feels like it'll have a worsening effect on small press reviews.

I knooowwww! I was shocked when they reviewed Skin Thief! Having to pay to sub all the books would be devastating to NH.

This was already happening because PW was far less likely to do free reviews for small publishers (they don't select every book submitted for a review). As a small publisher, it's hard to get a trade review for less than $350.
