I didn’t realize how much “localization” they do until I tried to buy my favorite Costco dessert (raspberry/chocolate rugelach) at the Northern VA Costco. No dice. That’s a MD Costco item
The two Costcos in Queens are noticably different. The one in Brooklyn different again (though so completely mobbed all the time I don't go, even though sometimes it would be on an optimal pathing).
BTW if that's accessible to you and you want a great shopping experience, I recommend the Food Bazaar on Northern Blvd. Huge, clean, service butcher and fishmonger, amazing selection of EVERYTHING.
I know that food bazaar because they have a rokstar chicken. Also they're pretty close to the WinCo restaurant supply store and Hmart. The Hmart is across the street from BJ's and I think a lot about how if that BJ's became Costco I would be in consumer heaven. (shares a parking lot with Home Depot)
I know Home Depot is evil but when my toilet was clogged (longer story I told on the bad site I could pee but not poop) I would shit in that home depot and it's won me over even though the one closer to the airport is objectively nicer
You can not pay me enough to drive in Rego Park especially that stretch near the mall. I went to the Trader Joes ONE TIME in Rego Park and swore never again. It's too stressful.
I have several different Costcos I frequent depending on where I am in the area and there are definite differences, even in the same market. Some have a strong selection of Indian or east Asian items others a lot more kosher or Hispanic choices.
yea, the one in Wheaton MD has a HUGE Orthodox Jewish clientele from their (very good!) kosher departments-their kosher cheese range in particular is very good.
