To a person, every former NCO I know (including myself) was of the opinion that the effort was minimal and the results shabby.

Note: Slightly more caustic language may have been used, particularly privately.

It was at least tolerated by the officers and senior NCOs. The implication is that motivation was lacking up and down the chain.

That was my feeling. We would have heard something about NCOs being chewed out by now.

My take is this was a thourghly lousy assignment, done under pretty poor conditions, and for pretty crap reasons (the troops ain't dumb), and the troops reacted accordingly. It's a form of protest but more of "this sucks" than one of an overtly political nature. IMO, of course.
