I hate when I share a time I was mistreated and the other person's immediate response is "oh I'd NEVER let that happen to me." ok well something bad is about to happen to you right now though

It stings when a friend/family member victims blames or shames us. But people who think they can stop bad things from happening to themselves dare less and cower too much.
Just a really bizarre perspective on human agency. You can't prevent someone from mistreating you unless you dedicate your life to living in a cave...but then the bats might mistreat you
When you share that you lost your keys and what you went through/are going through to find them and the other person's immediate response is to tell you about what they do so they don't ever lose theirs.
Solidarity! It's so frustrating when people invalidate your experience instead of offering support. Have they considered that privilege might play a role in their never statement?

It's a choice for "adults" to remain victims, and it's their choice to react emotionally in harmful ways.
But most refuse to take personal responsibility.
