I remember the cystic fibrosis patients I took care of 20 years ago.

I also remember the dedicated HIV wards in the hospitals, and that Princess Diana made headlines for shaking hands with AIDS patients.

Progress has been incredible.

Ah yes all those children with long covid — it must just be menopause, and/or being bed ridden to get attention & pity (which is never shown). And that’s just those sick with it now. How many reinfections will a young person have in their likely now shorter lifespan?

2 things are true with regards to Long Covid, it is very real and pretty horrible for a lot of people, but also the numbers of people who permanently affected in a debilitating fashion seems to be somewhat overstated, some people do sadly have it for the very long term, others improve in months.

I am very active in the long covid community and while a lot of people improve no one is cured. Even the people who only felt terrible for a few months have a reduced baseline. Often they conclude it’s too much effort to try to get more treatment (you really have to fight for it) so they drop out

With all due respect though, that is still people with more severe long covid, which is far from all people when you see people talking about 2m with LC. I had a few months of moderate post viral symptoms, which slowly reduced and pretty much disappeared after about 6 months. That is pretty common

i have seen no data indicating that long covid is resolving for people. There are definitely a lot of people who feel bad for a month or so and then get back to normal when they rest (many aren't permitted to) but thats not the definition of long covid anyway.

anyone who gets covid should be able to take off as much time from work as they need to 1. recover 2. not spread it to their coworkers. That's a paradigm that is vastly different from what we have now. But even so, if you look at real long effects, long covid is really common among all populations

People’s recollection of what they could do before they get sick is very wrong. I see articles with people who used to do triathlons describe themselves as mostly recovered because they can ride an e-bike a short way and only have to lay down a little after .
That’s not recovered. That’s improved

Amazing news. When I was a new RN many years ago, the first patient in my care that died was only 18, from cystic fibrosis and it hit me hard.

I knew a few people. All of them recovered eventually

One young man got some weird side effect, and it messed him up so bad that he was put on light duty. I have no idea if he recovered

I also know one man who got a serious d.v.t. leg reaction to the vaccine, but the vaccine gave me leg hives
