Perhaps SBL uses FF for its corporate work, and they’re getting a nasty letter as a freebie / at mates rates. If so it may indicate a lack of intent to seriously pursue.

If I was going to speculate. Freshfields is not the first firm you would think of to bring a defamation claim. Their bread and butter is big ticket corporate work. Their litigation team will spend its time mostly on large commercial disputes. Which makes me think:
