🧵 1/7 There is a crisis - but not the one you think.
Boys and men are struggling with mental health, suicide, loneliness, and disconnection. That much is clear.

Genuinely curious. 😲
It’s about masculinity being left unexamined for too long.
But when exactly was masculinity ‘better’? When men died at 45, had no words for grief, and were only valued as soldiers or paycheques?
The past wasn’t better. It was just less questioned.
These are real issues, but clustering them into a single narrative hides the truth: poverty, systems that fail boys, and emotional isolation, not the absence of masculinity, drive this crisis.
The work of healing must start with men, not by looking backwards or entirely blaming external factors.
Boys don’t need nostalgia. They need models worth following.
This is an invitation to stop reaching for the past and start building something better.
I have six brothers and I am a 100% single mother to two sons. My adult male heterosexual brothers love this narrative, and they are all miserable. I am actively supporting my tween and teen sons with therapy, connection & truth - it’s not easy - these boys will be more than alright 🩷
