Wish we had something that easy...ish. (Or better something like the EU where we could basically just...move.)

I've looked into places, but I don't think I qualify under most visas. You know since I'm a newscast director and not directly a journalist. Sigh.

Also it’s really hard to find a job directing tv in another city let alone another country.

That said…if you know anyone at like RTE or Das Erste…LMK lol. (I have been working on learning German. I’m…ok at it. Spanish too. Functional but not fluent. And some Russian.)

Heh. Like I said I’m relatively safe right now in Minnesota. There are people in FAR worse states than I am. But it’d be nice to have…options. Unfortunately the only documented family history I have doesn’t help since they came here from Germany before 1907.

There are a few other practical things that could help if possible.
How does "income" tax work - as far as whether it is collected by an employer or dealt with by the individual. What other taxes need to be known about to organise to pay (eg, even something like a TV licence).

Car tax / insurance (and insurance disks). How cash vs debit card / vs credit card is viewed for purchases. How long / varied are typical working days. Where bands play. How public transport is ticketed (at least in the major cities).

What is the emergency number(s) to ring in case of fire, etc.
All minor things that are generally easy if people know about them in advance (or know enough to ask specifics). Having worked in and out of the UK there are plenty of things to trip people up.

Cars : bring your car with you. As an immigrant, if you've owned it for more than 6(?) months, you'll be exempt from vehicle registration tax, which makes cars here significantly more expensive than in the UK.

Since the pandemic, you'll be unlucky to find somewhere that doesn't take a card.

Public transport: you can (sometimes) pay other ways, but mostly you'll want a leap card for value and convenience

There's a TV licence, but no council tax. You'll pay for your bins separately, and a property tax of a few €hundred per year

It's much simpler than the UK. It's paid by the employer; there are 2 rates, 20% up to a certain amount, 40% on the rest, then you can deduct a tax credit of €4000 from the total. You could work it out on the back of an envelope.

There are also 2 other supplementary taxes which will add about 5%
