This doesn't show how the door has been left open, though. Most Americas are supportive of laws protecting trans people but their views are nuances (support military, against trans men in women's sport/prisons). I can't see how the Dem position is worth them navel gazing over.
Bringing the conversation back the professor- there are of course countries with progressive trans policies (or at least not the US’s) that also track biological sex - Canada, NZ, the Netherlands etc. why didn’t she use those as examples?
Going beyond what you asked @robfordmancs.bsky.social IMO this exchange encapsulates and illuminates the (successful) mainstream U.K. GC approach. Vocalise on ‘common sense’ (eg sport) while hiding much more regressive policies.
What evidence do you have
that “more regressive” policies are being hidden? I think most “GC feminists” are quite open about wanting to retain both sex based rights for women and the protections for trans people in the Equalities Act.
Helen Joyce (who has appeared with Sullivan several times) explained what this is, when she advocated for a reduction of trans people, because of all them are a problem. That is why Trump is the best example in the whole world for ‘data collection’
